lamb is underrated.....it's practically a crime.
At Van D Ranch, we raise the highest quality Dorper sheep because they produce amazing, flavorful, yet mild cuts of lamb. Our lamb is not "gamey", and packs an impressive list of nutrition facts making it even more desirable to those have have become hooked.
Lamb offers variety to the dinner table, and doesn't have to be difficult to prepare. Served hot or cold, there are countless recipes for all three meals of the day that incorporate lamb without becoming labor intensive. Perhaps one of our favorite lamb recipes takes only fifteen minutes to prepare for supper, and is bursting with flavors. Kids, adults, and picky eaters are often surprised to discover that lamb is quite tasty.
What's our secret? Our sheep are grass-fed Dorpers, and they are carefully supplemented, kept outdoors where they have access to clean air on our small farm, and plenty of grazing area.
Dorper Sheep are highly adaptable and are a hair breed, meaning, they are not raised for wool production. The Dorpers originated in south-Africa. The breed was developed by the crossing of a Dorset Horn x Blackhead Persian around the 1930s. Since then they have continued to spread in popularity all over the world for meat production.
